Rumba is located in downtown Chicago. The night I visited Rumba was a Saturday. Rumba is a restaurant with a dance floor. Dancing space is cut in half because of the dining tables. When the tables are removed at 10:30 pm and the fun begins. There is no cover which was great until I was charge $4 for a small bottle of water, ouch Shocked !!! The crowed was dressed to impress like Babula. Some of the dancers bar hop to each club on Saturday Night. What caught my eye was the level of experience some of the dancers had. Very flashy and hot!!! My first thoughts were that they were instructors showing off, which may be true, but I never asked, but enjoyed the show. It may have been bad luck on my behalf but most of the women that I had asked to dance were beginners and I played instructor most of the night. The floor was good and had sufficient space for the dancers (when the tables were removed). There is a second smaller floor available. The night was complemented by a live Latin band and DJ. Salsa music dominated the night.
TIP: Most salsa addicts go to Club Babula first and then make there way to Rumba when the tables are removed.
I recommend Rumba, drinks are pricey, but you do get a good atmosphere and a live Latin band to boot. The more experience dancers can be intimidating to new salsa dancers. I say just ignore them and go out there and have a good time.
